Desire, Discipline, Dedication…Great Building Blocks!
When Vince Lombardi took over the 1-10-1 Packers in 1958, he did so with the desire, discipline, and dedication to make the Packers a championship team. Three years later, the Packers won their first of five NFL Championships in nine years.
Mr. Lombardi told his men that "the difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will."
Here at Christian Academy of Indiana, we are in the very earliest stages of trying to build a championship caliber program: a program that is not judged solely on wins and losses, but a championship program that demonstrates excellence in all that we do; a program with athletes who excel in the classroom, on the practice surface, in the contests, and in their community; a program that develops young men and women for others and more importantly, for a lifelong walk with Christ.
Building such a program does not happen by chance. Next week I will be meeting with all of our high school and middle school athletes and discussing with them how the three building blocks of success in our program need to be Desire, Discipline, and Dedication: a desire to relentlessly pursue perfection, the discipline to maintain that pursuit in the face of adversity and failures along the way, and the dedication to hold one another accountable for bringing our talents every day so that the gifts God has given us can be used to their fullest and be a testimony of His greatness to others in our community.
Know that while we pursue this vision, it may get tougher before it gets easier. For this program to accomplish all that God has in store for it, it is going to take a persistent and relentless pursuit of excellence by everyone around the program. We will build this thing one workout, one failure, one win, one family at a time. Go, Warriors.
