We are not "The Story"
We were blessed last week when Josh Beers came to us from Lancaster Bible College and spoke with our students and athletes about PERSPECTIVE. So often as athletes we are fooled into thinking it is all about us and we lose the big picture of the fact that we are not the story. We are a part of a bigger story and that is God's story. When we started this year I started using the phrase "building young men and women for others and for Christ." What is interesting in that phrase is that at no time does it talk about building young men and women for themselves. It was interesting to hear how Josh reminds his athletes that when they win he gives the players the credit and expects them to give God the glory. So often we hear athletes say "I had a good game" or "I blew it" but it is seldom when you hear them say that they give God the glory for the gifts He has given them and the opportunities those gifts have given them to do mighty things. When Colt McCoy was injured in the BCS Championship football game, he could have responded by saying he was so angry that it had to happen now and how it was supposed to be his time but rather he responded by "standing on the rock" of Jesus Christ and stating that he will not question why. The very fact that he was in that place at that time saying what he said was a bigger example of Christ's love and God's story that day than any amount of success may have been. His words of the "Bigger Story" reached hundreds of thousands of people and impacted them in a way that they may have never been impacted before. Even for those of us who strive to walk with and serve Christ on a daily basis, it stirred up emotions and an understanding of how we often fall short in truly giving our lives to Christ. Let the words of Josh Beers drive us to understanding that we truly play for Christ and it is by his strength that we can accomplish mighty things...Mighty things for His Glory! Go Warriors!
