Varsity Boys Basketball Closing Gap on Competition

For this Warrior squad (1-11), the steady improvement may not be showing up on the record book yet, but the team is getting closer all the time to putting more stripes in the win column.

Over the first eight games, the Warriors gave up an average of 69 points per game while managing fewer than 43 on the offensive side.  Over the last four games, this young squad has begun to close the gap giving up fewer than 60 points per game and scoring nearly 49 points.

Drew Mattingly, the starting shooting guard and lone senior on the team, has teamed up with juniors Chris Carruthers (small forward) and Miller McCorkle (point guard) in trying to bring the very young team to success.  Freshman Cody Bachman (forward) and Greg Laughlin (guard/forward) round out the starting line-up and have both shown signs of great things to come.

The bench has steadily improved as well with the play of junior guard Caleb Weaver, sophomore utility man Nathaniel Burns, and freshman guard Aaron Hayes.  Sophomore forward Tyler Stumler figures to make an impact once he is back to full speed in mid February.

With nine games to go in the regular season, if this team continues to improve at their current rate, they may sneak up and surprise people in sectionals.  No better time to make some noise.  Let’s go, Warriors!
